Our first impression is that this is much like home in the Yukon! The trees are stunted, the mountains are varied in shape, the vistas are pretty magnificent, there is lots of fireweed in bloom and the traffic is light. Cornerbrook is our first stop as we are trying to arrive at Gros Morne National Park today. We manage to get the last weeks blog caught up, groceries bought, lunch eaten, and a bit of a tour of Cornerbrook done.
We do manage to get to Gros Morne later in the afternoon and then discover that Parks Canada doesn’t have serviced campsites. So we find a private campground in Rocky Harbour that will do quite nicely for the next three days. At first glance the villages are just like the pictures you may have seen, the houses are higgledy piggledy arranged around a cove, there isn’t much formal landscaping, and there is a casual and austere appearance.
