Dawn breaks bright, sunny and without a whisper of wind. Of course we wouldn’t know that because we are still in bed when dawn breaks. However when we do arise the day is still sunny, bright and without a whisper of wind.
We make several stops along the way, but are most impressed with the Agawa Wall pictographs. This is a special place for the First Nations of the region and I feel the significance as we descend the path to the waters edge.
These pictographs tell a far greater story than I can write, so we leave it to you to come visit this special place.
As if we haven’t had enough of the city, we spend about four hours in Sault St. Marie strolling the river front, having some lunch, doing our laundry and trying to find an internet cafe. As luck would have it, the only place in town that had internet has gone out of business. With no major centres between here and Stratford, there will be quite a gap between updates I’m afraid. Oh well, life goes on.
We stock up on groceries while in the Soo and head out of town in the late afternoon. We have left Lake Superior and are following Lake Huron. The difference in landscape is dramatic. With the raw, rugged splendor of Superior behind us, the land we are now driving through seems very pastoral and serene. There is no gradual change in the scenery, one side of Sault Ste. Marie is shield, the other side of town is farmland.
There are also no provincial campgrounds on our route until we get to Tobermory, so we stop for the night at a private campground and spend the most we have ever paid for a campsite…$30.00. Lynn goes nuts here and goes on a mosquito killing rampage. She’s quite out of control and I worry for my own safety. She roams the trailer hammering anything that whines and flies through the air. There are dead mosquitoes all over the place and still she roams, relentless in her pursuit.
I decide the safest place is down at the lake with the mosquitos and am rewarded with a really nice small mouth bass.
There are not too many thuds coming from the trailer now and I deem it safe to return. Bad mistake … upon entering I let in about six or so more mosquitos and the carnage starts all over again.
