It was already, or maybe still, 21 degrees at 6:30 this morning. We had agreed to make an early start to the day to avoid the heat of the afternoon and so we blast about getting the necessary things done. Eight o’clock we were on the road, more south and more east. The landscape is busy with farms and small communities, one after another in a regular rhythm. It doesn’t really seem like you are ever in the ‘country’ now! We see well groomed massive lawns, lots of fields in some state of cultivation, and some clusters of trees that are monsters compared to where we call home. Every town has at least one golf course and some have a nice selection of brick or stone Victorian homes. But there is this brown haze that says something isn’t right in the world. I think it is a bad case of smog, Lawrie isn’t convinced. In any case we arrive at Wheatley Provincial Park just at noon and are quickly set up in a wonderful spot among huge maple, oak, ash, and hazel trees, where there is a nice breeze and lots of shade. Ahhh! Our thermometer has us at 27 degrees and that is far better than the 35 of yesterday. We aren’t really complaining, it is just that we are not used to these temperatures so early in the year. Our snapping turtle has vacated the site by the time we get registered, but maybe he will visit again, and I’ll include a picture on the next update. We have been told there is an internet cafe in Leamington, so we are finishing this up in anticipation of being able to do this long overdue update. I’ve only one picture to include today … out in the country with nothing around, here is this church! Nice architecture I think!
