Just to prove we are still able to “do mornings” we were up at 6:30 and gone by 8. We could have been gone by 7 but where is the holiday and civilized in that?
We are currently in a village 12 km west from Launceston by the name of Carrick. Stanley and his nut are a further 230 km west and right on the coast. Without making the day extremely long we have decided to stick to the number 1 highway pretty much the whole way out and then if the mood strikes us we can find some back roads for the way home. Of course we have to stop at the Christmas Hill Raspberry Farm for fresh raspberries and a jar of jam. Then there is the quaint town of Wynyard for coffee, hot chocolate & a pastry treat each; further stalled by a stop at the grocery for lunch fixings, petrol for the car, and a stroll to take some pictures. Then we stop at Cape Table for a look and walk in the rain to the lighthouse. Yes it is raining today, but only off and on. Next we visit Sister’s Beach and there we wander on the beach before stopping for lunch. We got half way through lunch when the sky opened up and we had to do the mad dash to the car. Lunch was still good, but slightly soggy!
We did ponder whether or not to carry on to Stanley, but we are less than 70 km away by now, so onward we go. We aren’t disappointed either. Stanley’s nut is a lump of land in behind the “tidiest Australian village”. We haven’t a clue what caused it, nor did we walk up, or take the gondola to the top. The village is lovely though and we had a nice walk in a gale force wind. So I think I’ve said enough … here are the pictures to prove what I’ve said, and of course to tell their own story!
