This trip has been in the planning for quite some time and it is now interesting to finally be here. Odd that this started with an accidental happening across the Discover Tasmania website. Intriguing little place in the world. True it is just part of Australia, yet it still seems a place apart.
So we left home on the 7 am flight on the 25th and arrived in Vancouver about 10. The next 6 hours were spent with Ruth and Doug (sister & brother-in-law) visiting Granville Island and the Science Centre. Janna and John also arrived at Granville Island for a visit with us. A few wonderful hours spent catching up with family!
We had Ruth & Doug drop us back at the airport about 2 hours before the flight but it was a bit of a harried time as we didn’t realize we needed to pick up our luggage and clear US customs (all for a fuel stop), go through airport security and then locate our boarding gate. Make sure you leave yourself enough time because you stand waiting in line-ups every step of the way! Six and a half hours put us in Honolulu for that fuel stop. Of course we had to get off, go through some sort of security again, and then reboard. Boring! Then another 10ish hours and it is touch down in Sydney. Bad case of TB (tired bums). A further forty minutes to clear Australian customs, take a bus to a different terminal for domestic flights, check in with Virgin Blue, and then a 10 minute panic when I can’t find my wallet. I did have it, just didn’t stick my hand into the right travel bag pocket! You can be sure I’ll keep track of it better for the rest of this trip!!! We had a bite to eat and then a bit of a wait to board the plane for the last leg … So total time of 28 hours with maybe 4 hours of sleep! But we left on the 25th and arrived here on the 27th … what happened to the 26th? Hmmm, something about crossing the international date line.
Picking up the rental car, finding our accommodations (a very nice apartment in a converted stable), a nice little drive and walk to Liffey Falls, followed by dinner at the Mill Inn restaurant rounds out the remainder of the day. I think we were in bed at 8 pm and asleep at 8:01.
Awesome. Keep up the good posts. Love the pictures too! Wicked awesome! I know what you mean about the line ups! THEY SUCK! Stupid America being all safety concious!
