I’m still not exactly well, but I won’t stay in bed all day! It continues to rain off and on, but it is just water after all. So after a late breakfast we set off in pursuit of The Grand Bazaar. The Grand Bazaar in Istanbul is one of the largest covered markets in the world with 60 streets and 5,000 shops, and attracts between 250,000 and 400,000 visitors daily. We should be one of those 250,000 don’t you think?
We walk past and then double back to a Free Admission sign and walk in. It is the Mausoleum of Sultan Ahmed I (and his relatives). Outside it looks like a Mosque without a minaret, inside it looks like a tomb. I couldn’t bring myself to take photos of the coffins, but you may see that on Wikipedia if you want.
After this brief unexpected visit, we are back to finding the bazaar and we would both say that isn’t difficult, what with it taking up so many streets!
Wow. I am so envious!
