So our travels now are very loosely organized. We are on our way around the Gaspe and everything is serendipitous. We wandered around Riviere-du-loup this morning and found a wonderful soap shop called Saponaria. We also found the bridge over the river from which the town takes its name.
There was an old barn full of collectibles and antiques in Cacouna that captured us for an hour or so. The final resting place today is this place called Matane, known for its wonderful shrimp. Lawrie is inordinately fond of seafood, so there is reason to stay here … and in fact we have lobster and shrimp with our salad … and it is delicious too!
Matane is a town of 15 thousand or so, and has several mills (we think plywood manufacturing) in addition to the fisheries but it is quite ordinary when it comes to the shops and homes. We have been rather spoiled with the wonderful old elaborate homes that we have seen in recent weeks in Ontario and Quebec. It comes as something of a surprise to not see these types of buildings all of a sudden.
On a completely new side topic, we were sent a program that alerts us to wireless networks that are open to use. So locating an internet connection is a matter of driving around a populated area and watching to see what comes up. As we aren’t on long and doing nothing illegal while we are, this is our preferred internet connection and now locating an internet cafe is a thing of the past. Yay! Oh, and by the way, the sky did finally have some blue in it at the end of the day while we walked Oscar and Oreo on the beach. Oreo isn’t too sure she likes the taste of salt water! Pah!
First ‘war driving’ (the term for what your doing)…next MP3’s. Sigh…my parents are outlaws! The police will be arresting you soon if your not careful. You’d be surprised at the statistics of the number of people who leave their security down for wireless Internet. Bunch of dummies really…a hacker could do some serious damage if they wanted to! I’m sure for what your using it for no one will care!
